So I saw one of the most visually disgusting natural events the world has to offer, the birthing of the placenta. I haven’t checked youtube, you could probably catch it there, anything visual is there somewhere. Myself, I caught it at prenatal class.
I watched it emerge into the light of day after spending almost 9 month’s, spawned in the womb, immobile in that warm, dark, wet place. A purple mass of pulsing, unstable, blood soaked flesh.
If all is successful with the baby’s birth it is the only thing that dies, and little thought is given to that death. It’s purpose is served. Mom has shed it. The cord is cut. It’s taken away in a metal dissecting tray for inspection, and given a good poking and prodding as to it’s fast fading health.
Of late a new purpose has been discovered for what was once burned or buried in older traditions. It’s starting to be harvested for stem cells, with the hopeful promise for tomorrows cures.
After saying all that, I can’t but laugh and cringe at the hideousness of it. It’s like Yog-Sothoth made flesh.
Ah, that’s where he got it from.
Alright, enough of this. Until next time.
