Comic focused social networking sites are a godsend for a small time creator like myself. Without them there is no way I’d have produced the quantity of material I have to date. Through Digital Webbing and Penciljack I’ve been able to locate and interact with a number of exceptional independent artists who have brought my scripts to life. Mind you not all of those associations have worked out. I’ve had a few projects fall apart but on the whole it’s been largely positive. One of those successful ventures was with the prolific Jeff McComsey, illustrator of Soaked Shells.
Recently Jeff posted on twitter for writers interested in putting together some short scripts for a horror anthology he’s attempting to put together. Naturally, I got back to him and he should be sending out the details this weekend. For now I’ll be keeping those close to my chest but the theme of the book is one of my favorite horror genres.
At the end of the month I’ll be at the Toronto Comic Con at the Ex. I won’t be showing up Friday till late in the afternoon, but I’ll be there all day Saturday and Sunday. If you’re a fan of the website stop by and say hello.
Speaking of websites I recommend Floodworks Webcomics. I stumbled upon the site after scanning a webcomic forum on Warren Ellis’ site. Specifically, Light Years Away is a cool sci-fi tale set in a moon based prison. Adam Rosenlund’s artwork reminds me of Frank Quitely and Ethan Ede’s writing has a nice pacing to it, with a pleasant mix of bloody action, interesting prisoner factions and an intriguing mystery surrounding the main characters violent nature that should keep be coming back for the foreseeable future.
